In addition, the Lackawaxen River and Middle Creek run through both counties. There are dozens of communities surrounding Lake Wallenpaupack. Each have their own flavors, having been established at various times over the last 75 years or so. Construction on the lake was begun in the 1920s.
Most of the communities were first created for second homes. However, most recent construction has been for year-round use. Many homes are now considered 4-season homes, and values range from under $150,000 to over 1 million. The higher priced homes are usually lake front properties. Properties that don't have lake frontage are usually provided lake access over deeded parcels for swimming and boating purposes. Non-lake communities have sprung up around the portions of both counties that have been set aside by the state of Pennsylvania and the federal government for hunting, fishing and camping. If you're looking to build a new residence, acreage, building lots, and small parcels of land are also available. Commercial properties adequately service the entire area.
